Bears blow it!

April 28, 2012

I see the Bears having no backup quarterback, didn’t pick one in the draft.  Oh well, if Cutler gets hurt again, they can bring in the waterboy or girl.

Of course, they  could have gotten Kellen Moore cheap and worked on him, but that takes foresight.

Some words of wisdom!

April 23, 2012

Moral certainty is always a sign of cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and what is wrong. All human progress, even in morals, has been the work of men who have doubted the current moral values, not of men who have whooped them up and tried to enforce them. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant, in this field as in all others. His culture is based on “I am not too sure.” -H.L. Mencken, writer, editor, and critic (1880-1956)

A dose of reality!

April 22, 2012
About a month ago I was reading the article in TIME on the 100 most influential persons.  My friend Lin suggested I should be nominated.  In my 73 years, I’ve learned never to argue with a woman when she pays you a compliment. 🙂
So off I went to the TIME web site only to find there was no way for anyone to nominate someone to the list.
It was an “Ah ha!” moment.  TIME nominates a bunch of persons and lets its readers vote.  This is, of course, how the USSR, the PRC, and the Democrats and Republicans run/ran their nominations for the political slate being put forth to the public.  (Yes, anyone can get their name on the primary ballot, but no one who isn’t supported/approved by the Party makes it to the final ballot.)
The other thing is that all the nominees and winners are part of the 1%.  This is simply an observation.
I can’t wait to see who TIME nominates next year.

A hunting I shall go!

Went out hunting the ferrule filling cabinet and some fiddly bits often found in the same wilds.  I was successful!  It was a manly outing!

Why you need to know your Capitalization.

April 19, 2012

From a teacher — short and to the point

In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I’ve noticed that more and more
people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the
art of capital letters.

For those of you who fall into this category, please take note of the
following statement: “Capitalization is the difference between helping
your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.”

Is everybody clear on that?

No way!
