“piñata impersonation”

This is too good!  “piñata impersonation”    We were discussing events on the Rt. 66 e-group.  I had made some comments & suggestions about running these events.  This is one response.  The phrase really sums it all up.    “Several years ago as the chairman for the Route 66 Fun Run I received an eye opening education about the mechanics of organizing an event. That was my first, but not last, piñata impersonation. The latest is as a board member of the Route 66 Association of Kingman and as chairman for the historic sign committee.”

Ain’t that the truth. As I told the person I quoted, until one tries to runan event, they have no idea of just how much work it is.

If someone hasn’t been to the Grand Canyon, I just say, it is a BIG hole in the ground. If they have, the just nod and say awesome!

Until you’ve seen the elephant, you have no idea.

I remember once in my Church our Sunday School teacher tried to host a cook out for us. Every day they chose conflicted with someone.
They finally just gave up and abandoned the whole thing.

Lets hope Jim won’t give up.

One of the things about being an event organizer is to be a benevolent dictator. Yes, pick a date & venue, they go together, and go for it. Trying to get agreement is absurd. There is always a problem for someone.

Let complainers run it next time. 🙂

I have no problem with the conflicts. Doo-doo happens. A central listing, such as on Ron’s web site willminimize said conflicts, but not get rid of them. It will allow for better planning.

And yes, it really is valuable to attendees to get the date & venue out well in advance of the event.
