Marsupial Mutterings

June 4, 2007

This category relates to my interest in Arthur Upfield.  He was an Australian mystery writer, tho born in Gosport, England in 1890.

For several years in the 90’s I published a fanzine on Upfield entitled: Marsupial Mutterings.

I first read Upfield in 1988 and have managed to collect all of the books written by him except the one I hope to republish.

My interest in Upfield led me to nudge the ABC in Melbourne to do a radio program devoted to him.  I thnk, I got about 5 seconds of air time.

Just recently I went to Australia for the Cast & Crew screening of “In Search of Bony.”  This is a documentary film on Upfield.  I had been interviewed for the film and got about 15 seconds of fame on Australian TV.  It was a pretty good doco.

I’m curently working on republishing “The Beach of  Atonement” which was published in 1930.  Needless to say it has been long out of print.  One will be able to purchase it thru Lulu Publishing once it gets there.  The cover will be a photo I took of The Beach back in 2000.  I followed Upfield’s direction and found the beach.  This book is not a mystery, but more of a psychological romance.

Any Upfield fans out there?
